IMMERSE YOURSELF IN LUSH NATURE AT BIG TREE TRAIL ON MEARES ISLAND

by Amy Huang |

While it’s just a short water taxi from Tofino, it feels as though it’s worlds away. Big Tree Trail is nestled in an old-growth forest and will get you back to nature.

The hike takes you on a 3.5 KM journey and up 106 stairs for that cardio workout you’ve been putting off.

Take the 10-minute water taxi ride from Tofino through a maze of small islands in the area. The trail begins along a winding boardwalk that is completely surrounded by lush trees.

You will come across some of the largest trees in BC, including spruce, hemlock and western cedar trees that are over 1,500-years-old. Keep an eye out for the largest western red cedar tree, which they call the ‘Hanging Garden’.

After you’re done exploring the serene area, you just hop back on the taxi over to Tofino.
