Granville Island Public Market
The market isn’t the cheapest place to buy produce, but it is one of the most interesting, plus many of its non-fruit and vegetable items are unique and add to the experience.
The Public Market is interesting any time of year and open seven days a week from 9 am until 7 pm (but closed Mondays in January). It is all indoors, so good to see regardless of the weather.
Thursdays from 10 am until 3 pm from early June until late October are good times to visit as that is when the weekly Granville Island Farmers Market takes place outside – so on those days there is even more farm produce to look at, admire, buy and enjoy. It’s a small farmers’ market, but a nice addition to what’s already in the area.
There is lots to do and see on Granville Island, so combine a trip to the market with a visit to one of the island’s theatres or restaurants, or a walk along the False Creek seawall.
TIP #1: Be careful eating market food outside – some of the baked goods are so tasty that seagulls will occasionally swoop down and steal your meal if you aren’t careful. We know this from experience!
TIP #2: If you like the Granville Island Public Market and want to see more, consider checking out Lonsdale Quay in North Vancouver – the Lower Mainland’s other “best public market.”
