If you’ve never visited the campus, located in Point Grey, now you’ve got even more reason to go. From July 18 – 20, UBC Food Services will be hosting their 2018 Blueberry Festival on campus to celebrate arguably BC’s most delicious fruit – the blueberry!
One of the most popular events for students, staff, and faculty, the UBC Blueberry Fest is open to the public and free to attend.
As you may have already guessed, the central focus of this festival is on the blueberry itself. Blueberry Fest includes a pancake breakfast, baked goods and bulk local blueberries for sale (with some of the best prices in the city), and several cooking demos.
The event spans three days (July 18 – 20) and takes place from 9am – 1pm, but it’s a good idea to get there early if you want to score the freshest baked goods. If you’re looking for some recipe inspiration, there will also be cooking demos + samples + recipes from noon to 1pm with resident chefs.
After you’ve eaten your fill of blueberry pancakes, don’t forget to explore the campus while you’re in the neighbourhood. There are plenty of attractions to keep you entertained for an afternoon, including the Beaty Museum (with the massive skeleton of a blue whale – see image below), Nitobe Gardens, and the Museum of Anthropology. Or, if you’re looking for something completely different, head down the steps to the infamous Wreck Beach – no bathing suit required.
