If there’s one thing that everyone must see at least once in their lifetime, it is definitely the Northern Lights, also known as the Aurora Borealis.
Canada is home to one of the best places in the world to catch the show put on by Mother Nature.
Those hoping to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights should plan a trip to the Northwest Territories. Here they’ll find the enchanting Aurora Village near Yellowknife.
The cozy village is made up of 21 tepees surrounding a pristine frozen lake. They provide a front row seat to the Aurora Borealis. Sightings are almost guaranteed, especially on those cold and dark winter nights.
According to Travel and Leisure, visitors have about a 95 per cent chance of seeing the lights in all their glory. Plus, you don’t have to wander way out into the wilderness in order to get a peek.
It’s the perfect place to view them because the land is flat and the cold weather makes for less moisture in the atmosphere. This in turn, allows for clearer skies.
Aurora Village allows visitors to view the spectacle from the warmth and comfort of a teepee, as well as take part in a variety of other activities in the area.
They include everything from dog sledding, snowshoeing and snowmobiling to ice fishing and unique dining experiences. Although they do not accommodate overnight stays, they are partnered up with hotels in town and provide pick up and drop off services.
